Performance Health and Soundness Exam

Recommended annually, and ideally prior to a competition season. This is a thorough examination of your entire horse that includes the evaluation of your horse’s:

  • General appearance - haircoat, weight, muscle tone, etc.

  • Heart, Lungs and Gastrointestinal tract

  • Muscles, bones, joints and feet

  • Movement: Motion exam and flexions to observe any apparent soreness/lameness

  • And, special attention to any other areas of concern (eyes, ears, mouth, etc.)

Respiratory Consultation and Plan

This is your opportunity to discuss your horse’s respiratory history with Dr. Stanton (coughing, bleeding, etc.). The respiratory system will be thoroughly examined, and any past or current treatments discussed. Recommendations for the future season will then be made in order to assist you in maximizing your horse’s respiratory performance this season. If necessary, further diagnostics may be recommended to further evaluate your horse.

Dental Float

Your horse will be sedated in order to fully exam his/her mouth and perform a dental float using the power float.

At Stanton Equine, our focus is treating lameness conditions and respiratory disease to improve comfort in performance athletes – the ability to do this on the road gives our clients better access to quality equine veterinary services.
